You might be familiar with those bland corporate mission and values statements that no one reads (much less lives by). That’s not this at all. I put a LOT of thought into my mission and values.
My Mission & Values are the heart of my business plan.
And these values not only guide my work, but also my personal life. I've done my best to capture what it means to be both a responsible professional and good human being. That might sound a bit heady, but that's where I got after a bunch of reflective writing. 😬

Turning Point Core Values & Beliefs

I meet you where you are without judgment and with a beginner’s mind. I do my best to celebrate everyone for who they are, rather than judge them for who they are not. I embrace a “no blame, no shame” mindset.
I don't make financial decisions for you, or pretend to know what is best for you. Rather, I empower you to determine which financial moves best suit you. I do this by providing knowledge and innovative solutions for you to consider. I come to every conversation with an open mind rather than a prescriptive answer.
I do my best to tell the whole truth to myself and to you. I believe honest and open communication is critical for a mutually beneficial relationship. I listen deeply and actively seek feedback. As Dale Carnegie suggested, I seek to understand before I'm understood.
I believe positive life change is accelerated by identifying and harnessing the energy of our emotions. I therefore embrace emotions and welcome them into our conversations about life and money.
I seek to normalize discomfort because it's where growth and learning occur (thanks for that insight, Brené Brown!). I believe success in life is directly correlated to willingness to have uncomfortable conversations (that second idea is from Tim Ferris).
I embrace diversity in all its forms and differing points of view. I value being kind above being right.
My focus is to help you deploy your financial resources to support your life of greatest value, meaning and purpose. I believe that by living into your own ideal life, you position yourself to be of maximum service to the world around you, including your significant other, friends, coworkers, clients and communities.
I believe an on-going and collaborative partnership best serves clients. The benefits of this approach include the reduction of complexity and overwhelm; an increase in optimism and confidence; optimization of tradeoffs; and an acceleration of the pace of positive financial & life changes.
I believe the value of financial planning is found in the on-going process of planning. A rigid and static plan is of little utility, but the fluid and flexible act of planning is invaluable.
I'll help you focus on a small number of manageable action items at one time. We don't strive for perfection, or getting everything done at once. We celebrate incremental improvements and believe in progress rather than perfection. I'll help you guard against the perfect becoming the enemy of the good.
I believe one of the keys to positive financial change is to see clearly the reality of your financial situation and engage with it consistently. This requires you to take ownership and action. While there are certain domains where I may do the majority of the heavy lifting, there will always be work for you to complete. I don't offer a wholesale outsourcing arrangement because I don't believe such an arrangement is effective.
I believe financial resources are merely a tool for you to support your ideal lives. Money is a means and not an end. I believe in the philosophy of sufficiency and that consciously defining “enough” is an essential element of maintaining a healthy relationship with money. I believe people don’t truly have financial goals; they have life goals with financial implications.
I believe it is impossible to consistently beat the market by employing an active investment strategy. I believe in a disciplined investment approach based on long-term, strategic asset allocation. I do not time the market or invest in specific companies. I partner with leading investment managers who employ a data-driven approach to investing and employ broadly diversified investments. You can learn more about this on the Focus Areas page.
